Universities must earn their funding

This is an analysis by Prof Adam Habib the Deputy Vice‐Chancellor Research, at the University of Johannesburg of the article by the Vice Chancellor of the University of KwaZulu‐Natal, Prof Malegapuru Makgoba regarding funding for universities in South Africa in which he stated that “An alternative formula for higher education research funding should recognise the differentiated character of our universities, and reward universities that are more productive”
