THE HOME of this small university is, not unexpectedly, in the far north of Madagascar, in the town of Antsiranana that was established around the natural habour into which the first European sailed at the start of the 16th century. An outline of the famous sugar-loaf island, ‘Nosy Lonjo’, that lies in the middle of Antsiranana Bay has found its way into the design of the logo of the University of Northern Madagascar.Universite’ Nord Madagascar also known as Universite’ de Antsiranana, has a total enrolment of 1,428 students, all of whom are contact learning students. All of the students are enrolled on full-time courses. Of the students enrolled in the University, 1,345 are Malagasy and 103 are citizens from SADC countries.
