SARUA has done pioneering work in mapping the status and profile of the higher education sector within the SADC, including country profiles. The results of the first such project was published in 2012. Details of the publications are available below.
The need for an up-to-date regional profile of the higher education landscape in SADC was confirmed with members of both South African ministerial delegations at the meeting of SADC Ministers responsible for Education and Training and Science, Technology and Innovation, held in Swaziland in 2017. SARUA has develop an initial proposal for the development of the regional higher education profile, and plans to commence with work on the profile during 2018. The profile should be an invaluable resources for higher education policy makers, planners and researchers, as well as for students and stakeholders in the public sector and industry.
A Regional Perspective (2012)Volume 1 of this study presents a detailed account of public higher education at the regional level. While such an understanding is of critical importance for enhancing regional collaboration and co-operation in the higher education sector, important national contextual details and specificities are lost in the process of presenting a regional picture.
A Profile of Higher Education in Southern Africa Volume 2: National Perspectives (2012)
This second volume of SARUA’s ground-breaking work on regional higher education profiling sets out to present the national higher education context and perspectives of each of the 15 countries making up the SADC region. This is particularly important given the diversity of the region.
